Understanding the IVF Journey: From Evaluation to Embryo Transfer

IVF is a multi-stage treatment, and a clear, individual plan can make each step easier to understand.

In vitro fertilisation, or IVF, may be considered for a range of fertility concerns, but it is not the only option for every person or couple. A fertility assessment usually reviews both partners where relevant and may include medical history, ovarian reserve testing, ultrasound, semen analysis and discussion of previous treatment.

An IVF cycle commonly involves ovarian stimulation and monitoring, egg collection, fertilisation in the laboratory, embryo development and embryo transfer. Some treatment plans differ, and not every patient needs the same medicines or sequence. Decisions about ICSI, freezing eggs or embryos, donor treatment or additional procedures should be based on a clear clinical reason and informed consent.

Success is influenced by several factors, including age, diagnosis and individual reproductive history. Ask your fertility team to explain realistic expectations, possible risks, costs and alternatives for your situation. Emotional support and time for questions are important parts of responsible fertility care.
