An ectopic pregnancy develops outside the usual location in the uterus. It cannot be diagnosed from symptoms alone, and early assessment matters when pregnancy is possible and pain or bleeding occurs.
Do not wait with severe symptoms
Severe abdominal pain, fainting, marked dizziness or shoulder-tip pain with possible pregnancy needs emergency medical attention. Seek care even if you have not yet had a positive home pregnancy test.
Give a clear history
Tell the team about your last period, pregnancy tests, pain, bleeding and any previous ectopic pregnancy or fertility treatment. Bring existing results if they are readily available, but do not delay urgent care to collect paperwork.
Follow the whole assessment plan
If further blood tests or scans are arranged, ask when they should happen and who will review them. Know where to return if symptoms worsen before the next test. A single reassuring moment or an online explanation is not a substitute for completing the advised follow-up.
