Birth preferences are a way to communicate what matters to you. They should sit alongside the clinical plan and leave room for changes if your needs or your baby’s needs change.
Start with priorities
Discuss who you would like present, how you prefer information to be explained and any previous experiences that affect your comfort. Ask about the hospital’s arrangements for support people, pain relief and care after birth.
Talk through possible changes
Ask how the team would explain a recommended intervention, what alternatives may be available and how consent is discussed. If a caesarean is being considered, request a separate explanation of the reason and recovery arrangements.
Keep it usable
A short page of priorities is easier to discuss than a rigid list of instructions. Review it with the maternity team and keep a copy with your नोंदी. The purpose is shared understanding and respectful communication, not a promise that labour will follow a particular script.
